Joshua 1:1-8 NIV [1] After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: [2] “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. [3] I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. [4] Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. [5] No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. [6] Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. [7] “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. [8] Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

- God wants you to possess the land.
- But there were seven nations larger and stronger than Israel occupying the land.
- For them to overcome the nations, God had to give them a strategy.
- We need a strategy to guide.
- Strategies need confidence to execute them.
- Confidence is affected by: poor/bad experiences, emotions, and excuses.
Strategies God Gives Joshua
- Be clear in your direction. God outlines the what, the when, the where and the why.
- Be confident in your desires. James 1:8 NIV. [8] Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. https://bible.com/bible/111/jas.1.8.NIV.
- Be committed to your decisions. Never look back. Luke 9:62 NIV[62] Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”https://bible.com/bible/111/luk.9.62.NIV. Joshua was not to be discouraged. What Affects Commitment?
- Problems (and troubles).
- Pressures (and responsibilities).
- People (and their words).
- Be corrected by your defeats. Verse 7. Mistakes are part of life. Romans 3:23 NIV. [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, https://bible.com/bible/111/rom.3.23.NIV. Also, verse 18. Admit wrongs, and do something about it. Learn from the mistakes, be a quick learner from YOUR mistakes.
- Be conscious of God’s dependability. Verse 5. As God was with Moses, so would He be with Joshua – He promised. He is dependable and not a respecter of persons.
And may the book of the law not depart from your mouth.
